Job Offers and Crazy Deals :-x

Alright, i've been so busy on the road back and forth lately. Well, to make a long story short, I applied to a job with the EPA as a Analytical Chemist back in December, last week I went out to the EPA for my last interview.. and today I got the phone call.. I got the job :) $77k , full benefits all that good stuff, the position is upto 115k so it's pretty on paper.. the only bad thing is, i'm SCARED, i don't want to settle for mediocrity.. 77k is okay, but i want more then that.. i'm worried that i will end up and settle for the 9-5grind.. I know I can make more then 77k between my companies if i just hussle fulltime (once i graduate) so i'm at a cross roads..

gotta figure some things out..

REI Deal goin crazy.

Well.. I got This house under contract.. remember the buyer who wants to buy a ton of houses? I tested him out.. and he backed out..said he didnt want the house.. the crazy thing is this is a CRAZY deal like, if i had the cash i would buy it type of deal.. and i called my number one buyer to see where he's at.. if you remember he's having some financing issues.. and guess what.. he still is having finance issues.

So, I have 30 days to find a buyer, well now its like 25..so i hope i do, otherwise i may just finance it myself..if i can LOL!

anyway, my thoughts are kinda scattered now, sorry for the incoherent post. Thanks everyone for wishing me well.. Steph, the soup helped ;) I got better AFTER i gave it to my girlfriend and my mom :( oops!

anyway, got school work to do, LATA!

Dennis, congrats on the gig at EPA! Don't worry about getting settled into mediocrity...there's nothing I've read so far from you that indicates you'd settle for anything less than true FREEDOM :-)

In the meantime, enjoy the gig and stack the dollars while growing your REI and eBay businesses. Make sure you have an exit strategy together for what it will take for you to leave the rat race within a few years (or whatever timeline you want).

Hey Shae,
The scary thing to me is I will get comfortable and just accept what is. I did fairly well in 2008 financially, and I really believe that once I graduate I will be able to make more then 77k if I can focus on my business.

On the flip side of things, you know a guaranteed payday is always nice :) AND my family won't be hounding me "So, Den.. where are you going to work?" Type of questions ...

Just so much lol

FREEDOM is not working 9-5, unfortunately, and I want freedom sooner then later , i guess this "fast food society" is messing with my brain a lil!

LOL! I know exactly what you mean... you're supposed to go to college and get a good job, right? And once you accept the EPA gig, everyone (except you!) will be very comfortable with what you're doing and be very proud.

Stick with your plans of having freedom sooner rather than later. Nothing wrong with working towards an exit strategy even upon your entrance ;-)

Nothing wrong with working in industry for a few years and establishing experience and a solid network in your field of interest. Just means more options for you.

You're doin' your thing, man. Way to go!

Hey Shae,
You know you're putting some things into perspective, your first paragraph basically is what I'm battling.

What you are saying is 100% right though.

Hi Dennis,

Glad to hear you're feeling better.

Would you have to put your businesses on hold if you took the j-o-b? Or could you still work them on the side?

What does your gut tell you?

Hey Steph,
My Gut tells me not to take the job. I would be able to do business on the side, but i think it would be a little harder, i would never have any me time. That's a solid 40 hours a week. Right now i have 16hours worth of school classes and it's hard.. so i know 40hrs working will be very hard.

So Mr. Dennis...your gut says not to take it. Are you going to listen? :-) Wow, it's been almost a month since your post! How long do you have to make a decision on the offer? They must've given you a good amount of thinking time which is cool. Whatever you decide, I know you'll kick butt. You're young, single, and childless. No better time to take well calculated risks :-) They become harder (though not impossible) when you're married with children. But if your gut told you to take the job, you shouldn't feel bad about that either. Just do what works for you. Good luck!
